PrettyLittleThing hires its first Black, Hijabi model

Modestish PLT Black Hijabi Model

PrettyLittleThing has introduced its first Black, hijabi, Muslim model to represent its new modest fashion line. The response on Twitter has been overwhelmingly positive, with users reposting the snapshots shared by model Billy Marsal.

The UK-headquartered fast-fashion retailer loved for its affordable styles straight from catwalks and celebrity muses, launched its first modest fashion line last month, signifying a major step towards its commitment to inclusivity. Earlier this year, the brand also launched a dedicated website for its customers in the Middle East.

London-based, 21-year-old Billy is reportedly the first plus sized hijabi model to represent the brand, and she is seen rocking some of the retailer’s latest, plus-size looks here:

For the ultimate chic look, she wears  a red, puffer style top with cuffed sleeves, fit with a wide, waist belt and paired with classic, baggy, light blue jeans. In another image, she wears an elegant mustard coloured, puff sleeve wrap dress, with a cream hijab, pointed toe boots and a long sleeve top. She also dons a black, short sleeved jumpsuit with wide leg trousers, fitted with a long, ribbon waist belt. The look is complete with a black hijab and small statement shoulder bag, gold rings and baby pink, acrylic nails.

For a show-stopping party look, Billy is seen glammed up in a slightly figure hugging, red, satin, maxi dress with tile prints and puffed sleeves. It’s paired with black, high heeled, pointed toe boots and a black hijab.

The young Muslim model, who is new to the modelling industry, explains her excitement and shock towards representing and inspiring other Muslim girls: “It’s an insane feeling. Yes, I am Black, I am Muslim, I am plus size, but I never thought it would be me to make people feel like this,” she says.

The PrettyLittleThing modest range features a variety of outfits for every occasion, such as everyday outfits of maxi-length dresses with long sleeve designs, a workout outfit, a modest swimwear line and even a black, woven, tie-back headscarf, truly leaving no stone unturned. A spokesperson for the e-commerce platform said: “it’s been amazing seeing such positive customer feedback and working with models who represent all of our customer base”, citing the brand’s ‘EveryBodyinPLT’ ethos. According to a press release, this is all part of PrettyLittleThing’s ongoing dedication towards producing diverse looks that cater to all shapes and sizes, across an international audience.
