British-Somali hijab-wearing actress and star of the 2019 coming age drama ‘Rocks’ Kosar Ali made her awards-show debut at the 74th BAFTA’s (British Academy Film Awards) on April 11, 2021, in a show-stopping, regal Alexander McQueen look from the brand’s spring/summer 2021 collection. She was nominated best supporting actress for her performance in the critically acclaimed film about female adversity and teenage friendship in Hackney, London.
In her collection notes for spring/summer 21, Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, expressed her vision: “Shape, silhouette, and volume, the beauty of the bare bones of clothing stripped back to its essence—a world charged with emotion and human connection.”

Kosar’s 2021 BAFTA’s McQueen look features a cropped tailored jacket in ivory wool silk and a shredded dress in layers of ivory tulle. Despite the cropped blazer being paired with a dainty and delicate tulle, its presence is at once powerful and commanding, with just the right touchof femininity. The actress accessorized the look with with an antique butterfly ring, silver cuffs, and baroque river pearl droplet earrings, and completed the ensemble with an ivory headscarf embellished with brooches, an antique silver clutch and ivory boots.
Kosar’s stunning and ethereal look for her first major awards show has certainly solidified her place in the industry, and she sets the bar high for modest fashion on the red carpet. We’re looking forward to seeing more head-turning modest fashion from this rising star!
